Based on studies, you car must be able to run for at least 100,000 kilometres before the need to change the battery. Of course, this comes with proper maintenance and discipline. However, there are certain instances where you can’t reach this point. Some of these batteries might already fail to work or have to be replaced earlier in the life cycle of the car. So how do you know if the effective life of your battery has been reached already? Even if you have been disciplined with maintenance. Here are some instances in which it would be necessary to replace your car battery:
• Extreme changes in weather conditions. You might be able to run your car at a normal rate in your area. However, as you move to an extremely cold place, you notice that your car won’t start anymore. This can also happen when it’s winter already and the temperature is below the usual temperature in your town. The ability of the battery to start in a certain weather condition is rated through the cold amperage measurement. If it hits cold weather immediately, it can still survive. However, if the battery is exposed to such a condition for long, it would require a certain amount of energy which is already beyond what it can offer. Thus, you have to buy a new battery that is used for places with extreme weather conditions.
• Damages due to accident. Sometimes, accidents can really cause extreme damages to your car. It might not be visible, but inside the car, you can still suffer from these damages. One of these instances is when the battery casing encounters leaks. If you don’t change your battery after this incident, the chemicals found inside the battery might flow out and will cause further harm. Thus, it would still be safer to have it changed right away.
• The battery has already exceeded the warranty period. Though most batteries still work well even if it has gone beyond its warranty period, it would still be advisable to have them replaced. Beyond its warranty period, you can no longer rely on free services should problems arise. Sad to say, it is during these times when problems arise more often. Rather than spending more on service charges, you better invest in a new battery and save yourself problems in the long run.
• The battery holds no charge anymore. When this instance happens, you can never start your car. The starter depends on the energy it gets from the battery. If the battery can no longer supply any, no matter how you try it, it won’t work anymore. There are some cases that will make the batteries work at first, but later in the journey it might run out of power.
When these situations arise, it’s time to do the replacement.
